Bosch Pumps in Essency’s modern water heater with thermal storage
Essency relies on proven 12 V pumps from Bosch: insights into a strategic decision
In an era where longevity and efficiency are crucial for products, manufacturers of water heaters are looking for reliable components. A prime example of this demand is Essency, a French company that relies on the quality of a 12 V water pump from Bosch.
Aurélien Salles, R&D Manager at Essency, explains why the Bosch pump plays a significant role in the long lifespan of Essency products.
Question: Mr. Salles, let‘s start directly with the core of our discussion: In which system is the Bosch water pump currently used by your copany?
AS: The Bosch circulation pump is a central element in our long-life water heaters, serving as a key component for ensuring the functionality and efficiency of our devices.
Question: Why did Essency choose a Bosch 12 V water pump instead of a standard circulation pump?
AS: Several factors were decisive for us. The pump´s small size and wide speed range were very important for our design. Also crucial were its responsiveness and the ability to precisely control the speed via our own electronics. Its ability to operate reliably at very low static pressure, as well as the DC power supply and the wide voltage supply range, were also significant.
Question: Mr. Salles, what role do the compact design and the hose mounting of the pump play?
AS: The compact design is very important due to the limited space in our devices. The 90° hose connections and the simple fastening to flexible hoses are essential features that have significantly simplified integration.
Question: Why is precise, low flow, controlled via PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), important for your heating system?
AS: The pump enables users to achieve very low flow rates, below 1 liter per minute, when needed. This is essential for the precision and efficiency of our devices.
Question: Essency places great importance on longevity. What were Essency´s requirements for the pump´s lifespan, and how does the Bosch pump meet them?
AS: We expected a lifespan of 10,000 hours at maximum speed and 70°C water temperature. The pump meets these requirements; all internal tests as well as our field tests were successful.
Question: How does the pump perform in operation? How satisfied are you with the quality?
AS: The pump meets the expectations of end-users very well in various applications. So far, there have been no failures in the market, which confirms its quality and reliability.
Question: What tests were conducted to validate the performance and longevity of the Bosch pump?
AS:The most important tests were accelerated aging tests at 80°C hot water and over one million start-stop cycles. Both were successfully passed and providing us with the necessary confidence for using the pump.
Question: The topic of energy efficiency is an important aspect. Has the pump met expectations regarding energy efficiency.
AS: Yes, it has. The pump meets all relevant European standards regarding energy efficiency.
Question: Mr. Salles, if you had to highlight one feature: What do you like most about the 12 V water pump from Bosch.
AS: First and foremost is the precise control of low flow rates. This is crucial for our products. Suitability for use with pure water and low noise development are other important advantages.
Question: What benefits does the pump bring to your electric water heater and thus to your customers?
AS: The points already mentioned, such as precise flow control, quiet operation, and reliability with pure water, are crucial advantages for our products and thus for our customers.
Question: The development of such components requires close collaboration. How do you rate the cooperation with Bosch during development?
AS: The cooperation was very good. We experienced a professional team that sets high standards in project development. The team has in-depth knowledge in the field of hot water preparation and associated pump technology.
Question: How did Bosch effectively support the integration of the pump?
AS: The Bosch team confirmed through calculations that the pump works at low static pressure, which is an important point for Essency. Bosch also defined the accelerated aging tests, which gave us the necessary confidence for the use of this pump.
Question: For long-lasting products, the question of maintenance often arises. Does Essency perform preventive maintenance for the pump?
AS: No, we do not have any preventive maintenance planned for the pump.
Question: Would you recommend the 12 V pump from Bosch to other manufacturers or companies?
AS: We can unreservedly recommend the 12 V pump from Bosch. Its performance, high reliability, and professional support are convincing and make it an excellent choice.
Question: Mr. Salles, in conclusion: Where do you see potential for improvement for the water pump, even if satisfaction is already very high?
AS: An adjustment of the software that stops the water pump when there is no speed signal, instead of letting it run at full power, could further increase efficiency.
